Bramble Ward is part of the Children’s Day Unit Services, which also cover elective day surgery, plastics paediatric clinics, and children’s outpatient clinics at Lister, New QEII and Hertford County Hospitals.
This day ward provides medical services for children and young people under 16 who require treatment for the day, but do not need an overnight stay.
The Bramble Ward team is composed of paediatric nursing and medical team, play therapists, a ward clerk, clinical support workers, and rotating nursing and nursing associate students from the University of Hertfordshire, all of whom are always happy to support patients, parents and various teams accessing the service.
Some of the treatments delivered in Bramble Ward include blood transfusions, antibiotic and medicine infusions, chemotherapy with Oncology reviews, specialised endocrine tests, allergy services such as oral food challenge, skin prick testing and eczema reviews, cannulation for scans, complex blood tests requiring play therapy and paediatric input, catheter change, and sweat test.
It also runs various clinics, including Jaundice, Oncology and Registrar Review clinics. There is a prospective and elective referral system in place for these services following respective pathways. The ward has a child-friendly waiting area and has 4 consulting rooms and 1 treatment room.
