The death of a loved one is a very difficult time; we offer you our condolences at this sad time.
The bereavement services are here to offer you practical and emotional support. If your loved one passed away in the hospital and you were able to be with them, the hospital staff should have given you a copy of a bereavement booklet. If you did not receive a booklet, please use this link to access an electronic copy.
If your child has died in the paediatric emergency department the staff should have provided you with a copy of the bereavement booklet ‘When your child dies a guide for parents and carers’. However if this was not provided, it can be accessed via this link https://www.rns.uk/lister-hospital-following-the-loss-of-your-child
The Bereavement Office is open for telephone enquiries and appointments from 9am – 3.30pm Monday to Friday. We understand that some people would prefer to have a face to face discussion rather than over the telephone, so if you require this please contact the office to book an appointment with a member of staff. This is to ensure we have a private room available for you.
Please call the Bereavement Office on 01438 284634. If your call goes through to the voicemail service, it is because we may be talking to another family on the phone. If you leave a message we will return your call as soon as possible.
Please note: The Bereavement Office is closed at weekends and during public holidays. The office will not be attended until the next normal working day. It is possible for you to leave a message on our confidential voicemail system during these times.
How to find us
When visiting the Bereavement Office you will need to enter the hospital via the main entrance and follow the main corridor all the way down to the orange zone where you will see signage for the bereavement waiting area. Please note this area is not staffed, please use the telephone on the wall and follow the instructions to alert us that you are in the waiting area and a member of staff will attend.
