Welcome to Endometriosis Hertfordshire, now a BSGE Accredited Endometriosis Centre. We are a team of specialists providing a dedicated service for women with Endometriosis in Hertfordshire and surrounding areas.
About Endometriosis Hertfordshire
Led by Mr CP Lim, consultant gynaecological endoscopic surgeon, the team consists of a number of specialists with expertise in different areas that relates to endometriosis. We work closely with women in managing their condition.
Having been a provisional centre for a year, Endometriosis Hertfordshire is now recognised as a fully-accredited BSGE Endometriosis Centre as of January 2020. This is means we are now officially a national referral centre to deliver a highly specialised service for women with all forms of Endometriosis.
Our team
Mr C P Lim, Consultant Gynaecological Endoscopic Surgeon
Mr Lim is the endometriosis specialist who leads Endometriosis Hertfordshire. Women with all forms of complex endometriosis can be referred to see him. He offers a tailored approach to the care of women with pelvic pain and endometriosis depending on their life circumstances and priorities at the time.
Mr Vivek Gupta, Consultant Colorectal Surgeon
If endometriosis affects deeply into the bowel, women may be referred for input from the bowel surgeon with a specialist interest in endometriosis, Mr Gupta. He offers further assessment where necessary, which may sometimes include tests like flexible sigmoidoscopy and colonoscopy. Mr Gupta also sits in the Severe Endometriosis Multidisciplinary Meeting and attends the more complex endometriosis surgery with Mr Lim when it involves the bowel.
Mr Nikhil Vasdev, Consultant Urological Surgeon
If endometriosis affects through into the bladder or the kidneys and ureters, women would be referred to the urological surgeon with a specialist interest in endometriosis, Mr Vasdev. Mr Vasdev is a part of the Severe Endometriosis Multidisciplinary Team and he attends the more complex endometriosis surgery with Mr Lim when it involves the urological organs like bladder and ureter.
Dr Thomas Samuel, Consultant Pain Specialist
Dr Samuel is the pain specialist for Endometriosis Hertfordshire. Sometimes endometriosis can cause so much pain that women would have tried a variety of pain medication. The management of pain symptoms from endometriosis can be very complex. In addition to gynaecological management, women are sometimes seen by Dr Samuel for his expertise in pain management. Dr Samuel run a specialist pain clinic and has a special interest in pelvic pain.
Dr Sue Buckingham, Consultant Radiologist
Dr Buckingham is a specialist gynaecological radiologist. She has extensive experience in interpreting the gynaecological scans in both cancer and benign disease. She is well versed with the specific types of MRI to do when it comes to complex endometriosis.
Dr Sarah Williams, Consultant Radiologist
Dr Williams is a specialist gastrointestinal and gynaecological radiologist. She has extensive radiological expertise in bowel disease and can provides a thorough assessment of the extent of bowel involvement of endometriosis on MRI scans.
Miss Ghadah Ahson, Consultant Gynaecologist
Miss Ahson has special interest in Diagnostic oncology and management of women with gynaecological cancers in the trust. Her role provides a balanced take on the management of some cases of endometriosis when there is a possibility of cancers. She is an experienced laparoscopic surgeon and will perform some of the endometriosis surgery for women referred to the service in support of Mr Lim.
Mr Alasdair Drake, Consultant Gynaecological Oncological Surgeon
Mr. Drake is the lead Gynae-oncologist for the trust . If there was concern of the possibility of a gynaecological cancer along with endometriosis, the scans and details can be assessed by Mr Drake, who is a gynaecological cancer specialist. In support of Mr Lim, he sits in the Severe Endometriosis Multidisciplinary Team and performs some the endometriosis surgery for women referred to the service.
Katie Moss, Endometriosis Clinical Nurse Specialist
Some women with endometriosis require special follow up on their symptoms and long term treatment. Clinical nurse specialist (CNS) Katie Moss is the main point of contact for women who are known to Endometriosis Hertfordshire who require these follow up. Along with Mr Lim, they manage the BSGE national database for Endometriosis Hertfordshire. They provide crucial support in seeing patients and the general running of Endometriosis Hertfordshire.
Molly Maloney, Endometriosis Hertfordshire Secretary
Molly provides the secretarial support for Endometriosis Hertfordshire. In addition, she coordinates the regular Severe Endometriosis Multidisciplinary Team Meeting and she works closely with other administrative staff in the hospital to expedite the care of all women referred to Endometriosis Hertfordshire.
Healthcare Professionals
Women suspected to have endometriosis can be referred routinely to general gynaecology to East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust by the GP.
For specialised and more complex cases, referrals can be made directly to the Endometriosis Clinic at Endometriosis Hertfordshire.
