Building work will begin in September 2025 at Lister Hospital on a major redevelopment to improve the front entrance of the hospital.
The improvements will mean a better experience for patients and visitors, with new shops and facilities transforming the existing entrance into a modern, welcoming, accessible and sustainable space.
Crucially, the project is commercially-funded, meaning no public money will be spent on the build and no money will be taken from any clinical, patient care or staff budgets.

Joining to the pre-existing entrance, the new build will provide much-needed office space and include new retail opportunities on the hospital site.
The new entrance will include the addition of Costa Coffee and Co-op.
It will also add The Stock Shop, providing clothing and gifts options, and a second Peabodys to the hospital, with the existing store focusing on fairtrade, organic artisan coffee and its range of hot drinks; and the other its fresh hot food range, including pasta, pizzas and paninis.
A 24/7 vending service is being added, stocked with Co-op products. Costa Coffee will offer its high street favourites, as well as introducing self-service kiosks and a loyalty scheme.
Following the 12-month build, work will start on refurbishing the existing main corridor areas followed by restoring the green spaces on Lister plaza into a functional yet aesthetically pleasing space for all. The new area will include accessible seating, picnic-style lawn spaces, and biodiverse planting.
The plaza will also have a new “Event Zone”, a flexible outdoor space designed to accommodate staff events, local market traders, and seasonal health promotions.
Access to Lister Hospital will be maintained throughout, including via the multi-storey car park and existing front entrance. Further information on any disruptions will be shared on the trust’s website.
