Who are we?
The Community Children’s Nurses are a team of experienced paediatric nurses, many of whom have a specialist qualification in community nursing or another specialist area.
What we do
We provide specialist nursing care and support for your child in your home or other community settings. Our team will support you to be able to care for your child at home and hopefully reduce the need for hospital admission. We will also aim to get your child home from hospital much sooner.
Our team can teach you to carry out tasks and procedures related to your child’s care if you wish to take this on. This can be discussed with your community nurse.
Who is eligible for the service?
We are able to see children aged 0-16 years who have a Hertfordshire GP. The referrals to the service will come from the doctors and nurses who already know your child at the local hospital or specialist unit. We see children who have a definite specialist nursing need that cannot be provided elsewhere.
The service
The team is based at the New QEII Hospital (covering East and North Hertfordshire). (https://www.enherts-tr.nhs.uk/hospitals/new-qeii-hospital/)
The service operates Monday to Friday 09:00 – 17:00. There is no service on weekends or bank holidays.
The team also have student nurses working with them at regular intervals. Please advise your community nurse if you do not want students accompanying them on visits to your child.
