Good nutrition is important for kidney patients at every stage of kidney disease for example preventing the progression of kidney disease, managing end stage kidney disease (on dialysis) and maintaining a healthy diet post-transplant. Finding trustworthy and easy to follow dietary advice can sometimes be difficult and confusing.
Our team of renal dietitians based at the Lister Hospital provide the dietetic service to in-patients and out-patients and all our satellite dialysis units at Bedford, Dunstable (Chiltern Kidney Centre), Harlow, Luton and St Albans.
The team specialise in the nutritional needs of people with acute (sudden onset) and chronic (long-term) kidney disease to help improve and maintain a healthy diet and weight, taking into account other conditions patients have such as diabetes, We work with patients and their families/carers, to provide advice, tailored to each patient’s individual dietary needs. We strive to empower patients to make balanced food choices to support their health needs.
This service is available to any patient with chronic kidney disease under the care of the East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust renal ream.
