Staff at East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust have joined with volunteers from a stillbirth and neonatal death charity to hold a virtual memorial service for parents affected by baby loss.
Today’s ‘Ceremony of Remembrance’ has been put together by the trust’s chaplaincy service and maternity team, and by the North Herts branch of Sands, to mark Baby Loss Awareness Week (9-15 October).
The ceremony can be viewed here:
Jacqui Hylton, bereavement support midwife at East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust, said: “The pandemic has had a profound impact on all aspects of our lives. Although it has made it more challenging to hold this annual event, we felt it was more important than ever to support parents affected by baby loss”
Cathy Beach, chair of North Herts Sands, added: “This has been a difficult year for many of our members. North Herts Sands has continued to support bereaved parents throughout the year thanks to our dedicated team of befrienders.
“We hope that our memorial service offers an opportunity for bereaved families to remember their babies, and provides them with some comfort at this time.”
