East and North Hertfordshire Teaching NHS Trust is proudly celebrating the first-ever National Children’s Nurses Day on Tuesday 30 June, recognising the extraordinary contribution of our children’s nurses to the lives of babies, children, young people and their families.
Launched by the Association of British Paediatric Nurses (ABPN) – the world’s oldest children’s nursing association – National Children’s Nurses Day aims to bring together children’s nursing professionals across the country to celebrate and honour the specialist care they provide.
Children’s nurses play a vital role across our NHS trust, delivering expert clinical care while helping children and young people feel safe, supported and understood during some of the most difficult moments of their lives. Whether caring for a newborn baby, supporting a child through treatment, cancer care or helping a family navigate a hospital stay, our children’s nurses bring a unique combination of skill, compassion and dedication to every interaction.
To mark the occasion, children’s nurses from across the trust have been sharing what they love most about their profession. Their stories reflect the privilege of caring for children, admiration for children’s resilience, building relationships with families through family-centred care and making a lasting difference when it matters most.
As part of the celebrations, staff and visitors are invited to visit a special awareness and fundraising stall on the main corridor at Lister Hospital.
Members of the children’s nursing teams will be on hand throughout the day to talk about their roles and the rewarding work they do every day.
The celebrations will also feature a special visit from the therapy ponies, with the Hospitals Charity mascot Stripe expected to make an appearance to help spread smiles among patients, families and staff.
Lizzie Franklin-Jones, Divisional Director of Nursing and Quality for Children & Young People said:
“Children are 25% of our population and 100% of our future. National Children’s Nurses Day is about raising the profile of child health and health, social and educational outcomes.
“It’s also about ensuring children have equity in service delivery and provision, recognising neonates, children and young people are a golden thread through every service across our organisation.
“It’s an absolute privilege to be part of a child’s journey, working in partnership with families to support children to most importantly be children and lead healthy and happy lives.
“I work alongside exceptional and highly skilled nurses – part of a wider compassionate and outstanding team of professionals who share the same passion to ensure children, young people and their families have the best possible care and experience.”
