Consultant urologist and robotic surgeon Tim Lane has begun his new role as President of the Royal College of Surgeons of England.
He is the first President of the Royal College of Surgeons of England in their 400-year history to have been directly elected by surgical members and fellows.
Tim has spent more than 20 years working at the trust advancing pelvic oncology and surgical education, and has played an important role in developing the next generation of surgeons.
Speaking on his appointment, Tim said: “I am both humbled and surprised in equal measure by the result. I am grateful for all those who have supported me, especially my colleagues here at the trust and across the region.
“It has given me and the College Council the mandate we need for change. We want to focus on membership issues and the training of today’s resident surgeons for the good of us all tomorrow.”
Colleagues at Lister Hospital came together on Friday 14 August to celebrate Tim taking up the role and to recognise this important moment in his career.
Justin Daniels, medical director at East and North Hertfordshire Teaching NHS Trust said: “It is brilliant to see Tim take on this prestigious role. It is a fantastic achievement, and we are proud to have someone of Tim’s experience and knowledge working here at the trust. It was a real pleasure to celebrate with him and colleagues.”
Tim will continue his clinical work as a consultant urologist and robotic surgeon at the trust alongside his new national role.
