Respiratory registrar Tejas ‘TJ’ Ingle is the winner of East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust’s Pay It Forward competition – which has been encouraging acts of kindness this week.
On Monday – to coincide with the start of Mental Health Awareness Week, of which kindness is the theme – our staff were asked to honour colleagues who have gone above and beyond during the coronavirus pandemic.
The East and North Hertfordshire Hospitals’ Charity received many nominations and today judges from the trust’s executive team chose TJ as the winner, who has received a Kurt Geiger website voucher for a gift of his choosing.
TJ had four nominations to his name, with colleagues writing how he worked “exceptionally hard” to create a COVID-19 virtual clinic. He has been described as “hardworking, compassionate and calm”, and someone who “always has a smile on his face – even after a gruelling night shift”.
Reacting to the news, TJ said: “I’m genuinely shocked that my colleagues have said such nice things as I wouldn’t be able to do my job without the team who work so hard every day.
“It’s a really nice surprise and I am grateful for their kind words. It’s great to work with such an amazing team and for an excellent trust.”
He added that the comments had “made his week”.
The trust’s How Are You Doing? team has also been promoting their Pay It Forward initiative this week – where colleagues are encouraged to do something kind for someone else without an expectation that it has to be returned.
Instead they are asked to ‘Pay It Forward’ by doing something kind for three colleagues – so the trust is asking staff who have received nominations to Pay It Forward with your own act of kindness, if you can!
