A specialist nurse for organ donation at East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust has thanked donors, their families and NHS colleagues after the news that 25 patients have received a transplant over the past 10 months.
Staff have referred 128 Trust patients to NHS Blood and Transplant’s Organ Donation Service as potential donors since 1 April 2022, resulting in 11 actual solid organ donors and 25 patient transplants.
During the same time period, 99.2% of potential organ donors were successfully identified and referred – and a specialist nurse was present at all organ donation discussions with families of eligible donors.
Becky Nicholls – Specialist Nurse for Organ Donation at the Trust and part of the Eastern Organ Donation Services Team, who is pictured with the Trust’s Clinical Lead for Organ Donation, Dr Kate Flavin – said: “The support for the organ donation process from critical care and theatres and many others around the hospital, as well as the Trust Organ Donation Committee, has been incredible.
“Your involvement makes a huge difference when supporting our organ donors and their loved ones – who I also wish to thank for saving and transforming the lives of transplant recipients.”
