Hertfordshire’s Purple All Stars have recorded a song at the Lister to help educate people with learning disabilities about spotting the signs of sepsis.
Sepsis is the body’s abnormal response to infection. If the early signs are not recognised and treated promptly, multiple organ failure may develop and this can be fatal. In the UK, sepsis is the third most common cause of death for people with learning disabilities.
Sepsis lead nurse at the Trust, Anne Hunt, said:
“Our sepsis team has collaborated with providers of learning disability services across Hertfordshire to raise awareness of sepsis amongst their service users and carers.
Anne continued to say:
“We wanted to make information on sepsis more accessible and it is thanks to Kate Harding in the health liaison team and the Purple All Stars that this was possible. They use the creative arts to share health messages and reach people who would be unlikely to pick up this vital information from websites or leaflets.”
