The Lister Diamond Jubilee Maternity Unit was as joyous as ever over the Christmas and new year periods, with 34 babies born during Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day and a further 29 born over New Years’.
15 babies, 8 girls and 7 boys were born on Christmas Eve, with a further 11, 7 girls and 3 boys born on Christmas Day.

Keen not miss out on her first Christmas, baby Inés (pictured) was the first baby girl to be born on Christmas Day this year, arriving two-weeks early at 3.56am.
Inés parents said:
“Thank you to the team at the Maternity-led Unit (MLU) for delivering our early Christmas present safely. Inés has been enjoying getting to know her big sister Clara, who is happy to have a little playmate!”
Baby Woodcock was the first baby boy born arriving at 9.11am on Christmas morning. Mum Natalie said “he will always be the best Christmas present. Thank you to the Lister Maternity Team!”.
In addition to 34 babies born over Christmas, the maternity unit also welcomed 29 babies over New Years’, with 16 babies born on New Years’ Eve (9 boys and 7 girls) and a further 13 on New Years’ Day (8 boys and 5 girls).
Director of midwifery Amanda Rowley said:
It fills me with pride to see our maternity unit support thousands of women and birthing people each year – and I am grateful for our wonderful midwives and maternity teams working over the Christmas and New Year periods to support our women and service users during such a special time of year.
