Nick Carver, Chief Executive of East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust said:
“We warmly welcome the announcement that University College London Hospitals (UCLH) has been chosen as the preferred provider, subject to due diligence, to run Mount Vernon Cancer Centre from April 2021.
“We know that services at Mount Vernon are much-valued. We were fully involved in the evaluation process of prospective providers, and we are committed to working closely with the team from UCLH over the next 14 months to ensure that our patients continue to receive high-quality care, and that our staff are supported through this period of change.
“UCLH have outstanding expertise in specialist cancer services, and we look forward to developing local cancer provision for the whole Mount Vernon population, in line with the advice from NHS England’s Mount Vernon Programme Board.
“Cancer services will continue to be provided at Mount Vernon – and patients will not need to travel into London for treatment unless it’s already part of the treatment plan or for a clinical trial.
“All partners are quite clear that there will continue to be cancer services for local people in the future, and that any proposed changes will be subject to a full and wide-reaching public consultation, of which local access will be a key part.
“Thank you to our staff who continue to provide high-quality, safe care for our patients during this time of change.”
