East and North Hertfordshire Teaching NHS Trust has welcomed new government funding to support a series of vital building improvements at Lister Hospital in Stevenage.
The funding boost of almost £1.8m will be used to modernise key areas of the hospital estate, with a particular focus on upgrading the exterior of the hospital’s main tower block.
Planned works include the replacement of windows across wards, the intensive care unit, and the theatre block, enhancing comfort and energy efficiency for patients and staff.
The investment will also support the improvement of ventilation systems in clinical areas, contributing to a safer and more comfortable environment.
Adam Sewell-Jones, Chief Executive of East and North Hertfordshire Teaching NHS Trust, said:
“We’re delighted to receive this significant funding from the government, which will allow us to carry out essential upgrades to our hospital buildings.
“The tower block at Lister Hospital is over 53 years old, and these improvements – alongside our ongoing internal refurbishment programme – will make a meaningful difference to both patient care and staff working conditions.
“In addition, we’re enhancing the hospital’s main entrance at no cost to the trust, helping us create a more welcoming environment for everyone who visits Lister.
“We’re committed to keeping disruption to a minimum during these works and will ensure that patients and visitors are given advance notice of any changes. We appreciate everyone’s patience and support as we invest in the future of Lister Hospital.”
This investment marks a significant step in the trust’s ongoing commitment to modernising facilities and improving patient experience.
