The role of a radiographer is now the focus of a brand new mural that has been added to one of Stevenage’s busiest underpasses.
Located near the Stevenage Town Centre, the artwork features one of the trust radiographers, Gilberto Pacifico and was designed by his daughter.
Inspired by her father, Bianca Pacifico’s artwork is a bold, colourful imagery that pays tribute to the Filipino community, the radiography profession, and the vital role of international recruitment in the NHS.
The mural has had very positive responses including families stopping to take photos, school groups visit to learn about the themes, and passers-by share their admiration on social media.
Speaking about the mural, Gilberto Pacifico said: “I’ve always felt incredibly grateful that, 23 years ago, the trust brought me over from the Philippines and gave me the opportunity to begin a new chapter as a Radiographer. “That opportunity has shaped not only my life, but also my family’s journey here in the UK. To have this tribute in Stevenage designed by my daughter is very special and I hope it inspires as many people as possible.”
Commissioned by Stevenage Borough Council, the artwork is part of a wider initiative to enhance public spaces and reflect the rich history of the town’s communities.
