Dr Brownlee qualified in 2006 from the University of Auckland with prizes in internal medicine, obstetrics and gynaecology and the Dean’s Medal. He completed training in neurology in 2013 in Auckland. During his training, Dr Brownlee was awarded the Bryan Hudson Medal for highest overall performance in the Royal Australasian College of Physicians written and clinical examinations.
After completing his training as a neurologist in Auckland, Dr Brownlee moved to London to take up a post as a clinical research fellow at Queen Square Multiple Sclerosis Centre. His research uses MRI to better understand the prognosis of MS and to identify the reasons why some people develop disability in the longer term.
He joined the Trust as a locum consultant neurologist in September 2015. He sees patients with general neurological problems at Hertford County Hospital including headaches, epilepsy, MS, Parkinson’s disease and neuromuscular disorders. He has a special interest and training in the diagnosis and treatment of inflammatory disorders of the central nervous system, particularly MS, optic neuritis and neuromyelitis optica.
