Dr Zac-Varghese studied at the University of Bristol Medical School. She specialised in Diabetes and Endocrinology, completing her training as a Walport Academic Specialist Registrar in North West Thames. She was appointed as a substantive consultant in Diabetes and Endocrinology at East and North Herts NHS Trust in May 2016. She is also an Honorary Lecturer and Senior Clinical Teaching Fellow at Imperial College London and at UCL medical school.
Research interests
Dr Zac-Varghese was awarded a Wellcome Trust Imperial College PhD fellowship and completed her PhD in 2011. Following this, she was appointed as an NIHR clinical lecturer and received grants from the Society for Endocrinology, BRC and European Foundation for the Study of Diabetes to continue research in diabetes and endocrinology. She has co-authored a textbook on Incretin Biology and published in peer reviewed journals. She has also contributed to the Oxford Textbook of Diabetes and Endocrinology. She is currently the research and development lead for Diabetes and Endocrinology at the Trust.
Medical education interests
She has a Master’s in education (MEd in ULT) and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Authority. She is currently the undergraduate lead for UCL undergraduate medical students at East and North Herts. She has received UCL Top Teacher awards in 2017,2018 and an Excellence in Medical Education Award in 2019.
