Dr Roberto Alonzi is a Medical Research Council Clinician Scientist with a special interest in Urological Malignancy. He has appointments as a Consultant Clinical Oncologist at Mount Vernon Cancer Centre and as a Senior Lecturer at University College London.
Dr Alonzi trained at Guy’s and St Thomas’ hospitals in London. Following his general training and membership of the Royal College of Physicians, his specialist training took place in London at Hammersmith hospital, Charing Cross hospital and Mount Vernon Cancer Centre resulting in a Fellowship of the Royal College of Radiologists in 2004. Dr Alonzi studied for his research degree at the Gray Cancer Institute and University College London and was awarded an MD in 2008. He currently sits on the National Cancer Research Institute low-risk prostate cancer group and the bladder cancer chemo-radiotherapy group.
Dr Alonzi’s research interests include the development of biologically targeted image-guided precision radiotherapy, tumour oxygenation, radiobiology and the use of radiation sensitizers in prostate cancer. He has also published work that characterises how the affects of hormone treatment alter the biology of prostate tumours. His research is currently funded by the Medical Research Council, the Prostate Cancer Charity and the Royal College of Radiologists.
