Mr Johal is a consultant trauma and orthopaedic surgeon with a specialist interest in the surgical management of foot and ankle conditions.
After attending Colchester Royal Grammar School he obtained a first-class degree in biomedical science and graduated with honours in Medicine from the University of Nottingham. He then undertook higher surgical training in London on the prestigious UCH/Middlesex rotation. He completed an MSc in Sports Medicine at UCL during surgical training.
Following the completion of training, he undertook a high volume fellowship at Stoke Mandeville Hospital – covering all aspects of foot and ankle surgical reconstruction. He was also awarded a British Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society (BOFAS) Travelling Fellowship to work with Professor Hintermann in Switzerland. In addition, he was selected to complete an AO Trauma Surgery Fellowship at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada.
He is currently consultant trauma and orthopaedic surgeon at East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust.
He has published and presented internationally and has a strong interest in teaching and training. He is currently the lead for education in the orthopaedic department, which includes undergraduate teaching for University of Cambridge medical students.
