Dr Ritesh Kumar is Respiratory Consultant at East and North Hertfordshire Teaching NHS Trust since 2022. He holds dual accreditation in Respiratory and General Internal Medicine. His specialist interests lie in Sleep Medicine and Interstitial Lung Disease (ILD). Beyond clinical practice, he has taken on leadership roles such as Clinical Governance Lead, Rota Coordinator, representative for the East of England ILD Working Group, and Trust Smoking Cessation Lead. These roles help ensure safe and high-quality care delivery.
His career spans over two decades across the UK, Ireland, the USA, and India. Dr Kumar has worked at renowned centres including Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Royal Papworth Hospital in Cambridge, and Tallaght University Hospital in Dublin. He is actively involved in research as a Principal Investigator for multi-centre clinical trials in ILD and sleep medicine, with contributions to high-impact studies such as the RECOVERY trial for COVID-19.
Teaching and mentorship are central to his practice. He serves as an Educational and Clinical Supervisor, Trust Appraiser, and regularly delivers ward-based teaching, journal clubs, and research supervision for junior doctors and medical students.
Dr Kumar has authored peer-reviewed publications, presented at international conferences including the European Respiratory Society (ERS), and received multiple academic awards, reflecting a strong commitment to advancing respiratory medicine through research and education.
His special interests include Respiratory Medicine, Sleep Medicine, ILD, Clinical Governance, Medical Education, and Clinical Research. Dr Kumar is a member of the ERS, BTS, RCP, BSS, and BMA.
He is passionate about improving patient outcomes through innovation, collaboration, and evidence-based practice, while also inspiring and supporting the next generation of clinicians.
