Dr Aparna Pusalkar joined the department of stroke medicine in capacity of a consultant in April 2012 at Lister Hospital.
From May 2013, she has taken up the role of lead consultant and clinical director for stroke services. In last three years, Dr Pusalkar has been actively working towards stroke service expansion and improvements along with our managers and CCGs. Her main achievements are:
- Regional HASU (48 beds in total)
- 7 day consultant led service
- Appointment of four more consultants ( 6 in total)
- Addition of 5 junior doctors to the team
- 7 day TIA service (consultant led)
- 24/7 Stroke specialist nurses
- Improved performance – grade A in recent national stroke audit
- Developing and implementing stroke pathways and guidelines
- High patient satisfaction and low complaint rate within medicine division
- She has driven and promoted educational and research activities further as educational lead and has been the principle investigator for various clinical research trials
