Hertfordshire County Council (HCC) will begin construction of the Lister Hospital Mobility Hub on 18 July with work expected to complete in November 2026.
The mobility hub will make it easier, safer and more convenient for patients, visitors and staff to travel to and from Lister Hospital. As part of Hertfordshire’s Bus Service Improvement Plan, the scheme will support more frequent bus services with the addition of a new bus stop and real‑time information displays. It will also improve access for those walking and cycling, with a new shared path, better cycle parking and a direct link to the North Road cycleway. A relocated taxi rank and new planting will further enhance accessibility and create a more welcoming environment for everyone using the hospital.
HCC’s priority is to maintain access to the hospital throughout the works. Access for emergency services and ambulances is ensured at all times. Access for patients and visitors will also be maintained 24 hours a day but please allow extra time for your journey.
During this period, you can expect:
- temporary on‑street bus stops on Coreys Mill Lane in both directions
- some parking bays on Coreys Mill Lane will be suspended
- some footpaths will be closed, with clearly signposted diversion
- routes and marshals on site to assist visitors and clear signage to help you navigate temporary changes
- temporary traffic lights and lane closures on Coreys Mill Lane
- the taxi rank will be temporarily relocated during the early stages, before moving to its new permanent location
You can continue to visit the hospital using the routes outlined below and use parking on site.
Hospital access
The hospital’s main entrance on Coreys Mill Lane remains unchanged during the works. The A&E entrance is also located on Coreys Mill Lane, to the right of the roundabout on Hitchin Road.
This programme of work follows earlier public engagement and is part of a Department for Transport-funded programme to improve bus services in Hertfordshire led by Hertfordshire County Council. HCC is working closely with East and North Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, which manages Lister Hospital, to ensure uninterrupted access for patients, pedestrians, car and taxi users and for emergency vehicles.
