Congratulations to urological surgeon Tim Lane who has been appointed President of the Royal College of Surgeons of England (RCOS).
Tim is a consultant urologist and robotic surgeon at East and North Hertfordshire Teaching NHS Trust (ENH) who has spent two decades advancing pelvic oncology and surgical education.
He is the first RCOS president in its history to be directly elected by surgical members and fellows. Tim will take up the top role this July and said: “I am both humbled and surprised in equal measure by the result. I am grateful for all those who have supported me, especially my colleagues here at East and North Herts. It has given me and the College Council the mandate we need for change. We want to focus on membership issues and the training of today’s resident surgeons for the good of us all tomorrow.”
Tim joins ENH consultant Jeanette Dickson as a nationally recognised leader in their field. Jeanette, who is Chair of Council of the Academy of Royal Colleges, is a clinical oncologist at Mount Vernon Cancer Centre. She was previously President of the Royal College of Radiologists.
ENH Medical Director Justin Daniels said: “Congratulations to Tim. It is a massive honour to be part of the trust that employs not only a College President but also the Chair of Council of the Academy of Royal Colleges.”
