Mr Salvesen was appointed as a consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist at the East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust, Lister in 1998. He qualified at St Thomas' Hospital, London in 1986. He then undertook specialist training in obstetrics and gynaecology at Thomas' Hospital and Queen Charlotte's Hospital. At King's College Hospital he spent two years undertaking research and training in fetal medicine with Professor Nicolaides.

He continues to have a special interest in fetal medicine and prenatal diagnosis and has extensive experience in undertaking pregnancy ultrasound scans, amniocentesis and chorion villous sampling (CVS). He is part of the core team of staff looking after women with multiple pregnancies.

Mr Salvesen is also a consultant gynaecologist having expertise in the management of a wide range of gynaecological problems including menstrual disorders, heavy periods, fibroids, pelvic pain, endometriosis, polycystic ovarian syndrome, prolapse, urinary incontinence, menopausal problems. He is able to offer minimally invasive treatments for heavy periods, urinary incontinence and other gynaecological conditions.

As divisional chair of women's services, he has been the senior clinical manager for both maternity and gynaecology services since 2016. He is dedicated to ensuring that the services we offer are safe, effective, well led, caring and responsive.
