Biography

Dr Warburton studied at St Bartholomew’s and The Royal London School of Medicine prior to working as a junior doctor in the East of England. He undertook specialist training in gastroenterology in the Eastern Deanery. He subsequently sub-specialised in hepatology. He was awarded an MD by the University of East Anglia in 2017 following a period of research in which he investigated the biliary microbiota and it’s role in liver disease. He has presented his work at the British Association for the Study of the Liver, the British Society of Gastroenterology and the European Association for the Study of the Liver Annual Conferences. During this period he also successfully applied for the advanced training post in hepatology at Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge, and spent a year gaining experience in advanced hepatology and transplantation.

Dr Warburton was appointed as a Consultant at the Trust in 2017. His main interest is hepatology and transplantation, and his aim is to provide advanced expert liver care to local patients. He also works one day a week in the liver transplant unit at the Royal Free Hospital. He is a keen teacher and has set up numerous teaching programmes since qualifying from medical school. He also has an interest in provision and training of upper and lower GI endoscopy.
