After graduating from medical school, I practiced general medicine for 3 years, and then joined the Medical School staff.  I developed keen interest in laboratory medicine and research after working with Professor JB Jensen.  Following this experience, I have decided to further my laboratory interest by enrolling for MSc and PhD degrees with Professor DC Warhurst, at the LSH&TM.  Then I worked as a post-doc studying molecular typing of Cryptosporidium in AIDS patients.  This work was very successful and, as a result, I was offered a Wellcome Research Career Development Fellowship. At the end of the Fellowship I embarked on a period of full time training as a Microbiology Specialist Registrar.

In 2006, I took a Consultant Microbiologist’s post at the E&N Herts NHS Trust.  At this post I provide a clinical microbiology service (diagnosis and antibiotic management of infectious diseases, choice and interpretation of laboratory tests and advising on hospital infection control). I also act as the Chair of the Trust Antimicrobial Forum and of the Pathology Research Committee.   Furthermore, I direct the Microbiology and Infection Control Research Laboratory that has received external funding, carried out a number of studies and clinical trials and produced a number of publications
