Experienced auditor joins Trust Board

Hitchin resident Karen McConnell has joined the Trust as a non-executive director.

With over 30 years of accountancy experience, Karen has held a variety of senior positions at the Audit Commission, the body formerly responsible for protecting the public purse.

In January 2013, she was appointed as Comptroller and Auditor General for Jersey and is responsible for providing independent assurance to the State of Jersey that the island’s public finances are being regulated, controlled and accounted for in accordance with law.

Commenting on Karen’s appointment, the Trust’s chair Ellen Schroder said:

“With over 30 years of experience in finance, Karen’s contributions will be key as the Trust continues to work towards financial sustainability and the transformation of our services, making them better for our patients. I am very pleased to welcome her to the Trust Board.”

Karen said:

“I am delighted to be appointed to serve on the Board of my local NHS Trust. I look forward to using my experience of governance, financial management and value for money. I believe that my skills will allow me to work effectively with colleagues to respond to the many challenges facing the Trust and build for the future.”

Non-executive appointments to NHS trusts made by NHS Improvement are subject to the Code of Practice of the Commissioner for Public Appointments. Karen takes up her role of non-executive director with the Trust from 07 January 2019 for a four year term; she is entitled to receive a remuneration of £6,157 per annum. Karen has no declared political activity in the last five years.
