Secretary of State for Health opens Lister’s new emergency department and ward block

Today the Secretary of State for Health, The Rt Hon Jeremy Hunt MP, visited the Lister to open formally its new emergency department and ward block, which between them comprise the hospital’s new £40 million emergency hub. The two new facilities form part of the Lister’s £150 million transformation in to the Trust’s main hospital for emergency and inpatient care – a redevelopment programme that completed in October 2014.

Health Secretary, Jeremy Hunt said:

“I was delighted to come to the Lister hospital today to open the new £40 million Emergency Department.

“This marks the completion of an ambitious £150 million redevelopment for healthcare in and around Hertfordshire that brings in first class services for the community and fantastic new facilities to benefit patients and staff.”

SofS visit

The Trust’s chief executive, Nick Carver, said:

“We were delighted to welcome the Secretary of State today as for some years now, our project teams – all of whom have been led by doctors and nurses – have been working to provide the Lister with some of the best inpatient and emergency facilities anywhere in the NHS. Our challenge now is to make sure that the quality of care provided to our patients continues to improve so that they too are amongst the best to be found in the health service. Today’s visit is great recognition, therefore, for everyone’s hard work over the last few years.”
