QEII hospital celebrates 50 years of patient care

The celebration will mark exactly 50 years to the day since Her Majesty, The Queen declared the hospital open, and will reflect on the great work of so many staff and volunteers who have touched the lives of thousands locally.

Nick Carver, Chief Executive, said,

‘We are really looking forward to celebrating the 50th anniversary of the QEII. As the shape of local healthcare changes, we were very pleased to hear that the name of the hospital will continue, with the announcement that the new hospital will be called the New Queen Elizabeth II Hospital. A hospital plays a major role in the community, and it is absolutely right and appropriate to publicly thank all the staff and volunteers who have worked so tirelessly over the last half‐century to care for local people. The QEII team is an exceptional one, as I’m sure local people will agree.’

The hospital is asking for members of the public to get in touch with memories and materials to add to their archives. If you have anything you would like to share with them, please email publicaffairs.enh‐tr@nhs.net, or post to:
