Urology is a speciality in which we treat patients with diseases of the urinary and genital tract. These include the prostate, bladder, kidney, testis and penis. Conditions include cancer, stones, infections, urinary difficulty, erectile difficulties and subfertility
It is mainly a surgical specialty with highly technical equipment including telescopes, laser, laparoscopic (keyhole) and robotic operations
The majority of our work is done in outpatients or short-stay day surgery. A small number of patients need more complex in-patient procedures. We are the Surgical Centre for Urological Cancer for Hertfordshire with visiting consultants from Luton and Watford
Our main base is at Lister with inpatients on Ward 8B and a full complement of Junior Medical Staff, Specialist Theatre and Ward Nursing staff. Secretarial staff are based at Lister in the Ashwell building. Day case and outpatients are performed at QEII Hospital and outpatients only at Hertford County Hospital
