Our sterile services department (SSD) decontaminates and sterilises theatre trays, procedure packs, dressing and supplementary instruments.
We process around 155,000 theatre trays and supplementary items each year. We audit our work monthly and our team are very proud of the service we provide.
Shortly after centralising to the Lister site, the Trust sterile services department was successful in being assessed and certified as meeting the requirements of Directive 93/42/EEC AnnexV, ISO13485:2003 and ISO9001:2008. Accreditation is maintained through six monthly audits by an external accreditation company. The department is also registered with the Medicines and Healthcare Regulatory Agency.
As well as providing a service for the Trust including operating theatres, wards and clinics, we also have customers in the local community. We work with local health services such as GP surgeries and family planning clinics throughout east and north Hertfordshire from Welwyn and Hatfield through to Royston, Broxbourne and surrounding villages.
