Who we are
The special school nursing team support children and young people aged between 3-19 years old, who have a range of learning disabilities, physical and neurological impairments and different medical conditions, in the special school setting.
What we do
The team support children and young people’s health care needs in a special school setting to enable them to access the curriculum. The team ensure that pupils health care needs are met through direct nursing care and provide training and support to education and care staff the help them meet those needs.
We work in partnership with the multi-professional team (which consists of a community paediatrician, physiotherapist, speech therapists and any other professionals involved in the child’s care) to co-ordinate health care clinics held within the special school setting in order to ensure that children and young people spend as little time as possible attending appointments outside school.
We also work collaboratively with parents/carers and members of the multi-professional team to ensure that children and young people achieve the best possible outcomes. Our team provide family support and promote the health and wellbeing of those children and young people in their care.
The service runs during term time only from Monday to Friday 09:00 – 16:00.
