Children’s Continuing Care

We have a team of highly experienced and skilled support workers who provide specialist nursing care under the direction of two Registered Paediatric Nurses to children with complex health needs in the Community.

The team is based at QEII Hospital and covers all of East and North Hertfordshire and provides nursing care 7 days a week with an out of hour on call service.

About our Service

The Children’s Continuing Care team aims to provide a quality in home respite provision in order to support and empower parents caring for children with complex health needs within their own homes.

The service offers respite care within the family home to children with complex health needs who meet eligibility criteria. These would include children who, in addition to evidence of technology dependence has:

 

Complex or intense medical, nursing or other clinical care needs

Or

Requires frequent and unpredictable interventions from a doctor or nurse

Or

Has a rapidly degenerating condition including palliative care needs

 

Training High

The team also provides specialised training in a variety of settings such as education/residential and day care settings in order to meet the needs of children who require clinical nursing care within these environments.

Training can consist of one off information giving sessions or comprehensive theory and practical training packages including assessment of competency where appropriate. For more information, click on the links below:
