The vast majority of all blood samples coming into the pathology department have been collected by its own phlebotomists, who also visit hospital wards, outpatient clinics and GP surgeries. Recently specialist community-based clinics have been set up around east and north Hertfordshire, more often than not in health centres. The aim is to provide people with a convenient local alternative to travelling in to hospital for a simple blood test.
Community-based sessions – GP surgeries
The Trust supports phlebotomy services in virtually every GP practice within east and north Hertfordshire – 44 in total. If you need a blood test, you may find it easier and quicker to contact your local surgery to find out when phlebotomy sessions are held there.
