Surgicentre website
The Surgicentre became fully operational on 24th October 2011.
Clinicenta provides the following services to adults at the Surgicentre:
- Day case surgery and some short-stay surgery, including orthopaedics
- Full range of adult ophthalmology (eye) services, including outpatients and retinal screening services
- In addition to providing services in the Surgicentre, Clinicenta provide ophthalmology outpatient services at the QEII and Hertford County hospitals. Retinal screening will continue to be provided at the Lister, QEII, Hertford County hospital, Royston, Bishop’s Stortford, Cheshunt, Portmill and Baldock.
- Clinicenta’s services are commissioned directly by NHS Hertfordshire
The Surgicentre has:
- Six operating theatres (two of which are laminar flow).
- 26 inpatient beds
- Outpatient services (mainly ophthalmology and pre-operative assessment services)
There are a number of benefits to the Trust of this partnership:
- It helps us shorten waiting times and cancel fewer operations. We will achieve this by separating planned and emergency operations.
- It provides our dedicated staff and their patients with modern surroundings and the latest hi-tech equipment.
The Trust facilitates the Surgicentre operations on the Lister site through:
- Leasing the land to Clinicenta
- Providing the majority of staff, both clinical and non clinical, through secondment arrangements
- Providing a number of clinical and non clinical support services to Clinicenta including radiology, pathology, pharmacy, portering and catering.
Key project milestones
January 2009 – We started work to prepare the site, this included knocking down the old postgraduate centre.
April 2009 - Financial close was reached with Clinicenta.
April 2009 – Building of the Surgicentre started.
March 2011 - Building work was completed and Clinicenta’s commissioning period began.
September 2011 – General services started in the Surgicentre.
October 2011 – Ophthalmology services started in the Surgicentre
