A to Z list of journals

To access our A-Z list of journals, an NHS Athens login is required.  Also known as My Journals, the A -Z list gives you:

  • Access to full text electronic journals available to NHS staff, free at the point of use
  • Details of print journals available in your local health library

If you encounter any problems downloading full-text articles, please contact the library staff for assistance.

BMJ Case Reports

Available to ENH Trust staff only, BMJ Case Reports require an NHS Athens login. BMJ Case Reports is an award-winning journal that delivers a focused, peer-reviewed and valuable collection of cases in all disciplines so that healthcare professionals, researchers and others easily can find clinically important information on common and rare conditions. This is the largest single collection of case reports online, with more than 11,000 articles from over 70 countries.

Submit a case report free of charge – the library has a Fellowship Code that you can use to submit a case report whilst you are working for the Trust. Please ask the library staff for the code.

British National Formulary/British National Formulary (Childrens)

Login to British National Formulary/British National Formulary (Childrens) here. You’ll need your NHS Athens log-in to access these online formularies.

Clinical Key

Clinical Key

Access to Clinical Key is via NHS Athens log-in, this is a medical search engine and database tool owned by the publishing company Elsevier that offers access to its medical library.  This includes access to over 600 Elsevier journals, 1,000 textbooks and 9,000 videos. To help you find the most relevant articles, the system also provides a series of reviews by subject experts called First Consult.

To access this service, there are two options to choose from:

  • Click on the link above and login via OpenAthens login with your NHS Athens account
  • Log in to your NHS Athens account and the click on Resources, followed by Clinical Key from the list provided

Clinical Skills.net

Clinical Skills.net is an educational resource to support training and best practice in clinical skills and patient care – access it via your NHS Athens login.  It consists of over 220 illustrated step-by-step clinical skills guidelines. All information is updated regularly and contains links to national guidelines and current best practice.  To access this product, either at work or at home, please use one of the following options:

  • Visit the Knowledge Centre (the Trust intranet) at work – click on Applications and select Clinical Skills.net from the drop down menu. Using this route requires no further logging in
  • Click on the link above and login via OpenAthens login with your NHS Athens account
  • Login to your NHS Athens account, click on Resources and then choose Clinical Skills.net from the list

Cochrane Library

Cochrane Library

The Cochrane Library (NHS Athens login required) is a collection of six databases that contain different types of high-quality, independent evidence to inform healthcare decision-making, and a seventh database that provides information about Cochrane groups.  Its databases are:

  • Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews (CDSR)
  • Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL)
  • Cochrane Methodology Register (CMR)
  • Database of Abstracts of Reviews of Effects (DARE)

Dynamed Plus

DynamMedPlus

DynaMed Plus – is a point of care tool – accessible via your NHS Athens login.  It is an evidence-based information resource used by medical staff around the world to answer clinical questions quickly and easily.  Here’s a summary of the key features of this great resource.

To access this product, at work or at home, please use one of the following options:

  • Visit the Knowledge Centre (the Trust intranet) at work – click on Applications and select Dynamed Plus from the drop down menu. Using this route requires no further logging in
  • Click on the link above and login via OpenAthens login with your NHS Athens account
  • Login to your NHS Athens account, click on Resources and then choose Ebsco Dynamed Plus from the list

Health Databases Advanced Search (HDAS)

Healthcare Databases Advanced Search (HDAS) is also accessed via your NHS Athens login.  HDAS is the search interface that NHS England has developed to enable you to search the following suite of eight databases:

  • AMED (Allied Health)
  • British Nursing Index
  • CINAHL (Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health)
  • EMBASE
  • HMIC (Health Management Information Consortium)
  • MEDLINE
  • PsycINFO
  • Health Business Elite.

MIDIRS: Maternity and Infant Care Database

The definitive database from MIDIRS (Midwives Information and Resource Service) and an important database for all those involved in the care of women and infants.

Click on the hyperlink to access the Maternity and Infant Care Database and login with your NHS OpenAthens account. Scroll to the bottom of the pop-up list of resources that appears and click on the database title.

NICE Evidence Search

Your NHS Athens Login may be required for some resources within NICE Evidence Search.

Royal Marsden Manual

The Royal Marsden Manual of Clinical Nursing Procedures, which is accessed via your NHS OpenAthens login, provides access to this electronic text book.  Once logged in to your account, click on My Resources and select from the list.  Print copies are available for loan in the library. TRIP – Turning Research into Practice

To access the TRIP database, login with NHS Open Athens. TRIP is a clinical search engine designed to allow users to find and use high-quality research evidence quickly and easily to support their practice.  TRIP has been online since 1997 and in that time has developed into the internet’s premier source of evidence-based content.

TRIP’s motto is Find evidence fast – something it aims to do for every single search. As well as research evidence, TRIP also allows clinicians to search across other content types including images, videos, patient information leaflets, educational courses and news. There are also some mini-tutorials on YouTube aimed at helping users get the most from TRIP.

Visible Body

Requiring an NHS Athens login, Visible Body is a suite of 3-D anatomical models of the human body. The models that you have access to are:

  • Human Anatomy Atlas
  • Anatomy and Function
  • Muscle Premium S
  • Keleton Premium

Login to your NHS Athens account, click on Resources and then choose Ovid Online and then the Visible Body tab. Contact the library staff if you encounter any problems.
