Every year the charity helps our hospitals improve their environment and enhance the care and treatment that patients and families receive. Some of the projects the charity funded last year included:
- Magic of Play appeal (£250,000)
We have just finished our appeal to raise £250,000 to build a new playroom at the Lister hospital. This new facility will be 55% larger than the old playroom and will include a teenager room, a separate playroom for children with low immunity and a lounge area for families to relax and play together. We care for over 3,000 sick children every year so this new state-of-the-art playroom will make a considerable difference the thousands of local families who are cared for at the Lister.
- AccuVein (£10,750)
An anonymous donor very generously donated the funding to buy an AccuVein which is a hand held device that is shined on the body of a patient to enhance the visual contrast of the veins. This is incredibly useful when trying to find veins of very young babies.
- Eighteen new chemotherapy chairs (£15,000)
Chemotherapy treatments can last up to eight hours, so to ensure patient comfort the charity supplied the new Lister Macmillan Cancer Centre with eighteen new, high-quality recliner chairs.
- Christmas presents for the children’s ward
Each year the charity provides hundreds of Christmas presents for the children’s ward and actively encourages local companies and organisations to donate to the children at Christmas.
