Trust rated in England’s Top 40 hospitals

National award comes at same time as Trust shows that it has met nearly every one of its 2011/12 operational, clinical and financial standards.

In the annual CHKS Top Hospitals awards programme, the Trust has been included in the Top 40 hospitals for England. The rating, which the Trust has received for the first time, is based on an evaluation of 23 key performance standards covering safety, clinical effectiveness, health outcomes, efficiency, patient experience and quality of care.

New units make Trust’s renal dialysis service biggest in East of England

Trust awarded two new contracts that from January 2013 will see Bedfordshire and West Essex residents having access to their own local renal dialysis services.

Following a formal tendering and procurement process carried out by the East of England Specialised Commissioning Group, the Trust has been asked to create two new satellite renal dialysis units in Bedford and Harlow. When these two new units open, this will make the Lister-based service by far the biggest renal dialysis service in Eastern England.

January 2013 should see Bedfordshire and West Essex residents having access to their own local renal dialysis services.

Following a formal tendering and procurement process carried out by the East of England Specialised Commissioning Group, the Trust has been asked to create two new satellite renal dialysis units in Bedford and Harlow. The Trust’s bid was a joint one put forward by its renal dialysis team, working closely with its specialist private sector partner Diaverum UK.

Pam Rhodes opens £4.5 million Hertfordshire Cardiology Centre

Local TV personality Pam Rhodes visited the Trust’s new £4.5 million Hertfordshire Cardiology Centre at the Lister hospital on 23 March 2012, when she unveiled a plaque to mark its official opening. Ms Rhodes was joined at the event by Stevenage MP, Stephen McPartland.

Trust’s new £2.0 million intensive care unit given go-ahead

At its regular monthly meeting, the Trust Board approved a £2.054 million business case to expand the intensive care unit at the Lister, which will see all of the Trust’s intensive care services brought together at the hospital by 2014. Preparatory works will now begin by April 2012, with the project completing seven months later in October 2012. This will see the majority of the Trust’s intensive care service based at the Lister, with some beds remaining at the QEII prior to their final relocation to the Lister.

Changes to QEII’s adult and children’s A&E services from 16 January

Following the transfer of the vast majority of the Trust’s emergency surgical services, as well as all inpatient stroke, cardiac and neonatal care, to the Lister by October 2011, changes now need to be made to A&E services at the QEII, especially overnight.

Norovirus – an unwelcome Christmas present

Following a suspected Norovirus outbreak on a ward at the Lister, the Trust is urging patients’ relatives who themselves have experienced vomiting and diarrhoea not to visit their loved ones until they are clear of symptoms for at least three days.  By doing this, people will be helping the Trust to contain the virus, which although not life-threatening, spreads very easily unless stringent infection control measures are put in place – which includes urging unwell visitors to stay away from hospitals.
