Respiratory team amongst best nationally for treating patients with lung conditions

The Trust’s respiratory team has been recognised as one of the best nationally for treating patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), a group of lung conditions that cause breathing difficulties.

The team took part in a national audit by the Royal College of Physicians and they were rated highly for reviewing patients with respiratory conditions within 24 hours as well as the discharge care bundle they provide patients with COPD. In the first quarter of this year (April to June), they were the seventh best performing team in the country out of 136 NHS trusts, before achieving third place in the second quarter (July to September).

Speaking about the team’s achievement, She Lok, clinical director for respiratory medicine, said:

“To provide the best care for patients with COPD it is important that they are, on admission, reviewed promptly by the respiratory team and given effective advice and management plan when they’re discharged. The audit highlights the excellent work of the respiratory nurses and the seven day consultant-led respiratory service.”
