Exciting new Lister project looking for volunteers

The Trust is on the lookout for confident and enthusiastic volunteers to join the enhanced care team’s exciting new project at the Lister. The team has created a one-to-one support service to provide a higher level of care to patients with conditions like dementia and memory problems. The role will involve spending time with patients and their families, making them feel comfortable and happy whilst providing support during their stay in hospital.

Speaking about the project, matron Emily Watts said:

“There are a large number of patients in hospital with memory problems, dementia and other medical conditions that stop them from keeping themselves safe. Having volunteers join us means that we are able to have more resources to help keep patients engaged by doing simple bedside activities.”

The Trust’s voluntary services manager, Janis Hall, said:

“The project will initially run as a pilot for three months and shifts will be either 10:30am to 1:30pm, or 4:30pm to 7:30pm. If you, a friend or member of your family feel that they can make a difference, we would love to hear from you. You can call us for an application pack on 01438 284760, or email volunteer.enh-tr@nhs.net.”
