Over 40 students take part in Trust’s first work experience week

Over 40 students from 26 schools and colleges across Hertfordshire and beyond spent a week (27 June to 1 July) at the Lister hospital in Stevenage gaining invaluable work experience. All the students involved, all of whom are interested in pursuing a career as a healthcare professional, joined the Trust’s first such work experience programme that it intends to hold annually.

During the week, each of the students was offered a range of fully supervised opportunities, including activities in theatres, radiology, maternity, neonatal, pharmacy and renal medicine, as well as in such support services as medical records and information management and technology. The initial feedback from students and the hosting service teams alike was very positive. The highlight for many of the students was the opportunity to shadow junior doctors for a half-day across a range of medical and surgical specialties.
