Calling all hairdressers, massage therapists, beauticians, singers, craft makers and entertainers!

The Trust’s voluntary services team is looking to set up a group of very special volunteers with an assortment of skills – including hairdressers, singers, musicians, story tellers, manicurists, magicians and craft makers – who would like to visit patients who are in hospital for long periods of time, or approaching the end of their life.

Commenting on the initiative, the Trust’s voluntary services manager, Janis Hall said:

“Positive experiences are really important – and not just for our patients, but also their loved ones who often are facing a difficult time. Here at the Lister, we want to offer up-lifting and enjoyable sessions for these patients, helping to provide them with a little distraction and pleasure. We know that doing this will also provide their family and friends with some comfort and good memories.

“Once we have you on board, this would not be a regular volunteering commitment. You just need to be happy for us to give you a call when the need arises and, if you are free, to come in and share some time with someone who really needs it.

“If you have a skill that you think might be of value to our patients, and would like to know more about this exciting initiative, then do just get in touch with us on 01438 284715. We would love to meet you!”
