Public Consultations

When we are planning significant changes to our clinical services we carry out public consultations. We do this because we want to listen to what our community, members,  local politicians and NHS staff think of our plans. It is the role of primary care trusts (PCTs) to lead such consultations, although acute NHS trusts can be invited to co-consult with them.

Your voice, your hospital, your care

We want to become a NHS foundation trust. We will still provide the same standard of service but we will be more accountable to our community. Before we applied we wanted to make sure this was what our local community wanted us to do. Our consultation ran from 3rd March 2008 to 30th May 2008.

Developing cancer centre services for people receiving treatment at Mount Vernon hospital.

We want to make sure our patients get the best possible cancer care. This is why cancer care in the county is being reviewed by Hertfordshire primary care trusts (PCTs). The review started in June 2008 and is looking into:

  • The location of the cancer centre
  • Future requirements for radiotherapy and chemotherapy
  • Finding an academic partner for the cancer centre to ensure the future of research and development

The interim report was published in March 2009

Delivering quality health care for Hertfordshire (DQHH)

This consultation considered the future of the NHS in Hertfordshire. It was decided that our Trust should bring all of its acute services onto one site, the Lister hospital in Stevenage.

More information on the consultation

It is the Trust’s view that the cancer centre should remain at Mount Vernon, but we would want to develop a satellite unit within east and north Hertfordshire to improve access to patients, especially for radiotherapy.

Towards the best, together

The NHS in the East of England carried out a consultation to find out how to improve our clinical services now and in the future. The ideas were submitted by local clinical NHS staff. It is a vision that is clinically-led, evidence-based, and patient-centred.

Find out about the consultation process and its findings on the East of England website.
